Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict Escalation: Renewed Clashes and International Reactions

Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict

Armenia-Azerbaijan looks like it’s heading to round two. The Russian-brokered “ceasefire” promptly collapsed this morning with renewed shelling and clashes along the Armenia-Azerbaijani border. In addition, evidence shows that Azerbaijan is attempting to cross the border into Armenia itself.

Armenia Calls for International Support

Armenia has stated that “Armenia has appealed to the CSTO for help and support, including military support to restore the territorial integrity of Armenia and ensure the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of Armenia.” Additionally, Pashinyan seems ready to declare martial law in Armenia.

Iran’s Involvement and Potential Support

While Russia is preoccupied, it may be Iran that comes to Armenia’s rescue. Iran has started moving military forces to the Armenia-Azerbaijani border. Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi said that “a new war in the South Caucasus is unacceptable and Iran is carefully following the developments.”

Recent Azerbaijani Drone Strikes and Armenia’s Air Defenses

The video below is of some recent Azerbaijani TB2 drone strikes on Armenia. It looks like in the past two years Armenia has still failed to improve its air defenses.
