Bulking Up, Romanian Edition
Now a little while ago, we posted about Romania taking an interest in acquiring the American M1A2 Abrams for their land forces.
Progress Towards Romanian Abrams
Now it seems that the possibility of Romanian Abrams has taken one more step towards reality, as the U.S. State Department has given the all clear for a possible sale of tanks and support equipment/vehicles to the Romanian Army.
The potential sale, which is said to be worth an estimated $2.5 billion, would see Romania acquiring 54 of the M1A2 SEPv3 variant. This is the latest incarnation of the Abrams and is the same model which was recently ordered by Poland.
Package Details
On top of this, the package would also include:
- 4 x M88A2 Hercules Combat Recovery Vehicles
- 4 x M1110 Joint Assault Bridges
- 5,940 rounds of 120mm M1147 High Explosive, Multipurpose, Tracer cartridges
- 4,230 120mm M1002 Target Practice Multipurpose, Tracer (TPMP-T) cartridges
Final Decision Pending
But as of posting, it is still unknown if the Romanian Government will follow through with the purchase. ~NC
