Fun Fact… The Pentagon Has Its Own Police Force
Not many people know this, but the Pentagon has its own law enforcement agency known as the Pentagon Police Division (PPD), which is a part of the much larger Pentagon Force Protection Agency.
Formation and Roles of PPD
Originally formed on October 1, 1987, as the Defense Protective Service, the PPD’s role is to provide law enforcement and protective services for not only the Pentagon but also other Department of Defense facilities in the Capitol region and Arlington County.
The PPD also provides security details for designated Defense officials and visiting dignitaries. Additionally, the PPD conducts patrols and has jurisdiction at Department of Defense leased properties throughout Washington D.C.
