If You Have Not Looked at Ford, Look Again
Back in 2019, defense contractor Ricardo came out with this “Military Spec” Ford Ranger concept. This came not too long after Land Rover stopped production of the legendary Defender and replaced it with that bloated SUV that now carries the same nameplate. Ricardo wanted to look for something that could be a practical replacement.
Military Spec Ford Ranger Concept
Despite looking like an off-the-shelf pickup, this concept was fitted with a rollover-protection system mounted to the roof rack. It also featured a ring-mounted weapon system in the bed, armored ballistic underfloor panels, armored glass, and more than enough gas and water cans to get you from point A to B and back.
Concept to Reality
This was just a concept that showed what could be done to “militarize” the humble Ford Ranger. But that did not mean the Ranger is not a suitable platform to use.
In fact, French company Arquus Defense offers the Trigger Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV), which uses the Ranger as a base. It’s meant for troop transport, liaison, cargo, surveillance, reconnaissance, and security missions.
