Israeli strikes on Iran: Tel Aviv strikes back.
On Friday the 25th of October, an estimated 100 Israeli planes took off to take part in “Days of Repentance”: Tel Aviv’s revenge operation for Iran’s own strikes on Israel on the 1st of October 2024. ( https://defensionem.com/israeli-air-defences-breached/ ).
Israeli F-16s, F-15s and F-35s took part in the strikes in three waves. The planes hit targets 2000km (1200mi) away. Those planes flew over Syria, Jordan and Iraq. The strikes went on throughout the night, the biggest attack Iran has seen since 1980.
We can assume the F-35s went in first and were involved in radar and SAM suppression. We know that a radar in Suweida (Syria) was hit during the night, and so was a Hawk SAM battery south of Tehran. There were probably more similar targets hit during the raid. The F-16s and F-15s followed suit.
Three IRGC missile bases were subsequently hit alongside the Parchin military base 30km SE of Tehran.
It looks like Tel Aviv heeded Washington’s advice not to hit Iranian oil production facilities, nuclear sites or the residences of Iranian civilian and military leaders. Such a response would have elicited another round of Iranian strikes and led to a spiral of escalation.
So far, it looks like this is it for this round: Both countries have demonstrated that they can hit one another at will.
