### Discovering the “AeroGavin”
Okay… I just found out about this “thing” and I need to talk about it.
Within the community of military commentators and analysts, there is a small faction who genuinely believe they know better than anyone else. Even though they really don’t.
One of the more infamous members of this group is a guy named “Mike Sparks.” I must point out that he falls under the category of being 100% butt-crazy and is known for two things: his crazed conspiracies (and I mean “lizard people caused the great flood” crazy) and his absolute love for the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier. And I mean love.
### The M113 “Gavin” and Mike Sparks’ Obsession
To him, the M113 (which he calls the Gavin for some reason) is the greatest vehicle of all time and that the U.S. Army made a mistake by replacing them with the Bradley IFV. To him, the “Gavin” was the pinnacle of excellence and could be used as a basis for a… flying APC. Remember when I said he was butt-crazy?
He personally came up with the design for what he called the “AeroGavin,” an airborne capable M113 that would be powered by a single but “powerful” turbo prop engine. I’m not going to go into the “specifications” of this contraption because I read through his ramblings and honestly… it sounds like something I would come up with when I was nine years old. I think I did, actually.
### Comparing the M113 and Bradley IFV
Anyway… despite having a serious hard-on for the M113, Mr. Sparks fails to realize that both the “Gavin” and the Bradley are two totally different vehicles with different roles in mind. While the M113 was basically a battle bus for troops, the Bradley was designed to both transport troops and provide support for said troops. Hence the reason it is classified as an “Infantry Fighting Vehicle” and not an APC. ~NC
