Developing…. A Russian Air Force MiG-31 “Fox Hound” has crashed in a lake in the Murmansk region.
Details of the Incident
Videos circulating on the internet have shown the aircraft engulfed in flames before nose-diving and vanishing behind a hill. At present, there is no word on whether the pilot was able to eject or just what caused the flames that were seen.
History and Background of the MiG-31
The MiG-31 was first introduced by the Soviet Air Force in 1981 and was an improvement over the infamous MiG-25 FoxBat. These aircraft have been in service for over 40 years and although a cause is yet to be determined for the crash, there is some speculation that poor maintenance may have been a factor.
