The Battle of Verdun: Artillery and Stalemate
The Germans massed 1200 heavy and super heavy guns to the front prior to their offensive. They made provisions for 2 million rounds to be fired in the first 6 days of the battle. In response, the French brought in as much artillery as they could to defend the city.
