The Mystery Under the Mesa
Located on the border of Colorado is where one would find the Archuleta Mesa. Located near the town of Dulce, New Mexico, the Mesa itself doesn’t look all that remarkable and practically blends in with the general landscape of the region. But allegedly, Archuleta Mesa is said to be the location of a top-secret underground bunker operated by the U.S. Military akin to Area 51, commonly referred to as “The Dulce Base”.
Rumors and Whistleblowers
Rumors about this supposed base have been around since the early 1970s, and it’s said that some really messed-up stuff is being conducted within the facility. The first mentions of the “base” came from a businessman by the name of Paul Bennewitz, who claimed that he had intercepted electronic communications coming from within the Mesa itself. Over the years, supposed “whistleblowers” have come forward saying there is such a facility within the Mesa, and there are experiments being conducted which are the stuff of nightmares.
The Local Perspective
While some of these claims are dubious at best, many in the nearby town of Dulce and the nearby Jicarilla Indian Reservation believe that there may be some truth in these rumors. Over the years, a lot of strange things have been reported in the surrounding regions. Apart from the classic cattle mutilations and alleged UFO sightings, people have claimed to have seen blacked-out military helicopters flying in and out of the Mesa. There have also been reports of military convoys driving up into the Mesa and seemingly disappearing, even though the roads they used are known to be dead ends. Some persons have even claimed to have discovered large vents in the side of rock walls designed to look like cave entrances.
Urban Legends and Uncertainty
And then there is the urban legend of a supposed battle that took place within the Mesa sometime in the late 1970s, but that is too fantastic for me to take seriously or post about.
Now there is no way to tell if such a base even exists. But as far as the residents of Dulce are concerned, there is something going on underneath the Mesa.
