The Naval Surface Warfare Center announced the $30 million contract for AN/PLT-5 jammers with Sierra Nevada Corp, the jammer is also known as Thor II. While Backpackable jammers have been around for since 2009, the Thor II is significantly more capable. The system has a wider range, strong signal package, and has a longer battery life while simultaneously reducing weight when compared to the Thor I system.
The U.S. Army is thinking of procuring the same system for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.
Sierra Nevada will be producing the system at their Rancho Cordova facility, and should be finished by March 2017.
