UPDATE!
It’s now confirmed the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the country’s foreign minister are among several people who were killed in a helicopter crash near the border with Azerbaijan.
Details of the Crash
The wreckage of the old Bell 212 helicopter which was being used by Raisi, was discovered hours after it went missing in the mountainous region. Not surprisingly, the Iranian government has been quick to say sabotage as the reason for the crash, even though no evidence has been put forth to support this claim. They also ignored the fact that weather conditions were poor when contact was initially lost.
Government Response
As a result of this discovery, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has appointed Raisi’s vice president as the new leader of the government until new elections can be held.
