USS Nevada’s Role in World War II
If the name sounds familiar, then that is because Nevada was actually one of the battleships that were “sunk” by the Japanese during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Journey of USS Nevada
After the attack, Nevada was raised, repaired, upgraded and attached to the Atlantic Fleet. She was used on convoy escorts before being assigned to the D-Day bombardment force in 1944.
On June 6th, 1944, during the Normandy invasion, USS Nevada played a critical role by opening fire on German positions at Utah Beach.
