When You Bring a Sword to a Gun Fight… And Win
Probably one of the more spectacular weapons the U.S. has at its disposal, the RX9 “Flying Ginsu” or “Ginsu Missile” was developed to keep collateral damage to an absolute minimum.
The Development of the Ginsu Missile
Believed to be developed and deployed in the early 2010s, the Ginsu is basically a modified Hellfire Missile. But rather than using an explosive warhead, the Ginsu has six seriously sharp blades that extend out to “slice and dice” its intended target, all the while limiting the possibility of bystanders being hurt.
Now, there really isn’t that much information about the Ginsu because it’s “Top Secret,” but it has been reported that this missile has been used at least 11 times to eliminate high-valued targets. Though it’s more than likely that the Ginsu has been used other than the times we know about.
Recent Utilization of the Ginsu Missile
Recently, one was used to eliminate al Qaeda Leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, as he was in his apartment in Kabul, Afghanistan. Normally, a standard Hellfire would probably level the building, but the Ginsu made sure only al-Zawahiri’s room was hit.
