XM808 Twister Armoured Vehicle: We Want One
Between 3 and 4 prototypes had been built by Lockheed by 1970, including a mobility test-bed and an amphibious version. It never made it to full-scale production.
Design and Structure
This vehicle had two connected hulls with four wheels each. Each hull had its own engine and transmission. The hinged hulls could pitch and yaw independently of each other, giving the Twister a very high degree of agility and all-terrain capabilities.
Performance and Features
It was also pretty fast on-road. It was lightly armoured (6mm aluminium body) and lightly armed with a 20mm automatic cannon.
