U.S. Navy’s Rail Escort Vehicle (REV): A Mobile Command Center

U.S. Navy Rail Car

Believe it or not, this thing belongs to the U.S. Navy. As strange as it sounds, the U.S. Navy does maintain a fleet of rail cars and one of its most important, is known as the “Rail Escort Vehicle”, or REV.

The Purpose of the Rail Escort Vehicle

Now I know what you are thinking, just why would the U.S. Navy need something like this? Well you see, the U.S. Navy uses the REV when transporting “Sensitive” pieces of equipment and materials from their naval bases to certain facilities which exist within the continental United States. But while other rail cars would carry these “Sensitive” pieces, the REV’s job is to carry the security details for them.

Security and Command Functions of the REV

In other words, the REV carries the armed guards for these trains, but are much more than that. The REV also acts as a mobile command center for these teams, but its exact layout and capabilities are classified.
